Phone Counseling Benefits

Telephone-based counseling enhances a therapist's accessibility, making her more available to clients. This practice breaks through the restrictions of location and time, so that clients can receive the guidance they need, when they need it. In addition, it allows for a reduced stress environment for clients who may prefer counseling from the comfort of their own home. Most of the time, going to a psychotherapists office can be an obstabcle in itself for those seeking treatment. My phone counseling sessions are more relaxed, more flexible, and cheaper than traditional in-house psychotherapists. In addition, the ability to schedule appoinments outside of the normal work day is fantastic for those clients with busy schedules.

  Free Phone Counseling

Currently, I am offering free phone counseling consultations to anyone who may be interested. These consultations are pressure free, confidential, and beneficial even if you do not continue with your counseling. During this initial visit, we can go over some of the reasons you are calling and hopefully get to know each other to see if we are a comfortable match. I find great success in these consultations as clients are typically apprehensive at first, but once they realize the ease and conformability of phone sessions things get a lot easier. Again, there is no catch, no pressure to sign up for more meetings, and no judgment during these free counseling consultations. If you are interested in trying my service, you can fill out the contact form on the right or give me a call at 916-448-1370. If you are still on the fence about making a call, we can chat via email at priscilla@pmbarnes.org. I check my email regularly and hope to hear from you soon.

Advantages of Using a Telephone Therapy Counselor

For 40 years, scientific documentation has proven the benefits of "tele-psychiatry" beyond the advantage of accessibility. Initially, the idea of psychotherapy may be intimidating to those who have never sought assistance from a psychologist. Phone Counseling allows for a certain anonymity, reducing the emotional exposure a new client may feel. Some are distracted by those first face-to-face sessions in which they inadvertently scrutinize the therapist for a reaction to the discussion, rather than sharing openly. It can take many in-office sessions to build comfort for a client, whereas phone counseling sessions often enable a more immediate depth.

Clients soon discover that the same bond they established in a psychotherapist's office is easily created over the telephone. As they continue to discuss their adult and family experiences with their therapist, phone counseling allows them to include other family members in different locations, via tele-conference. The therapeutic benefits can then be shared amongst adults whose participation was once limited by geographic barriers. Furthermore, many family members who would object to at joining an in-office counseling session are usually more willing to participate in a telephone based counseling session.

  Depression Counseling

Many people suffer from mild to strong depression. Most of the time this is a healthy and normal thing, but when it begins to affect your daily life or relationships, matters must be addressed. There are any number of common reasons as to why someone may be feeling depressed which I have explained in much greater detail on my Therapy for Depression article you can find on my blog. The majority of the time, my clients are simply struggling with a changing and stressful life. Past experiences and trauma may also be an underlying cause for depression and locating and talking through these experiences can have amazing results in understand ones feelings day to day. In more serious cases involving a chemical imbalance, a licensed psychiatrist should be contacted for possible drug treatment. I would highly suggest first talking to a clinical psychologist before turning to medication as there are a great deal of cases where patients are misdiagnosed and drug side effects end up making the problem worse. Even in extreme cases of chemical imbalance, psychotherapy has shown great success in helping to treat symptoms even alongside medication treatment.
